I have a fairly low opinion of the education system so my comment may be biased — but when I look back at my education years, I think they were largely a waste.
In the vein of a bit of exageration (or maybe not) I think school kids should be taught basic arithmetic, reading, and writing. After that they should be allowed to go in the direction of where their curiosity takes them under the guidance of grandparents and wise elders.
when kids are old enough they should spend a couple of years backpacking, journaling their experiences, and doing odd jobs.
Finally, to mark their graduation from focussed learning to being students of life, they should write a book or make a short movie, or a music album, or compete in a sports event — of their choice.
It’s a thought. Maybe it has a seed of an interesting idea or maybe it ought to be in the garbage bin... Let the jury decide.
