About this specific finding from Dr. Duke, I agree with the conclusion but find myself disagreeing with the reason. I don't think that children feel more confident because they know they're part of something bigger than themselves. I think the reason is that the family knowledge and family itself server as an anchor for the growing child which makes them feel safe to express themselves and explore who they are. And that gives them confidence.
