What Unusual Skills Did You Have When You Were Little?

That You’ve Forgotten Now!

Okay, so here’s a secret I’ve never told anyone.

Like most of us here, I fell in love with books when I was a child. But, looking back, I had a rather strange style of reading. I’d first read the last page, then I’d make myself forget what I’d just read, and then I’d start reading the book from the beginning as if I was completely clueless about how it ended.

I’d relish every twist in the plot and every challenge the little girl or the little boy or, as it was in one case, a little boat got themselves into, and I’d root for them, and I’d clap my little hands with delight when they succeeded in getting themselves out of the challenge.

This is how I’d read the book all the way till the end, and when I read the last line, I’d suddenly remember that I knew the end, and, for some strange reason, that would double my joy.

This just made me realise two things.

  • My little brain could do interesting things that I’ve forgotten as I grew older.
  • Life is made up of little joys strung together by a magical thread!

How about you? Did you have an unusual skill as a child that you’ve forgotten over the years?
