You took me back to the day when I had my first big job interview after completing my masters in computer science. I was in the same predicament. I needed a suit but did not have a good idea about which kind of suit to buy. I am still thankful to the kind and helpful person at the shop who helped me out.
I also resonated with the larger theme of your story. I just ended a 20+ years career in software development. I'd been feeling the exact same way about software development since the past couple years - a living hell. I hated waking up in the morning because I hated the work so much.
It's almost cathartic to write this comment because I can write it without (hopefully) inviting much judgement. Most people think I'm crazy for leaving work in software because it's the kind of work they'd love to be in. But I haven't felt as happy as I did after I quit.
